  • Essential Question (guiding question):How will I measure my progress?
  • Objective: Students will be able to accurately assess their ongoing progression of goal setting by frequently referring to their goal ladders to monitor progress.
  • Activation/Motivation Strategy:Provide students with a picture of a ladder. At the top of the ladder should be the goal the student is to achieve.
  • Teaching Strategies:Students will create a “Goal Ladder” to keep track of progress while obtaining their goal. First students will view the video “How Kids Reach Goals” and discuss how to break their goals down. The teacher will use a few examples to practice with the class before moving onto individual goals. Have students write in what steps are required to complete their goal. Each step will be written in a rung on the ladder. Ask what kinds of obstacles they expect to find. Have them write down these obstacles on the ground.
  • Materials:Individual student goal ladders, pencils

  • Summarize/Assessment Strategy:Students will refer back to their ladders to crossoff the steps/obstacles they overcome as they get closer to achieving their goal.
